Who is Help Fight Famine?

We are a coalition of community and humanitarian organisations united in our call for urgent action from the Australian Government to do our part in responding to the global hunger crisis.

Short Version

49 million people are facing famine due to conflict and climate crisis.

Australia can save lives if we act now.

Narrative

Right now, 49 million people are on the brink of famine. Children are dying. Conflict, COVID, climate shocks and now the war in Ukraine, have created the perfect storm for an unprecedented global hunger crisis. To prevent the deaths of millions of people, the Australian Government must step up and do our part. $150 million is needed to avert catastrophe in the worst-affected hunger hotspots in the Horn of Africa, Yemen, Afghanistan and Syria. We can make a difference, save lives and help fight famine.

Campaign Asks

We are calling on the Australian Government to:

  • Save lives now through an urgent Famine Prevention Package of $150 million to avert catastrophe in the worst-affected hunger hotspots in the Horn of Africa, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen
  • Tackle the root causes of the global hunger crisis through investing long-term in a targeted Global Food Security Strategy
  • Strengthen resilience of the Asia Pacific region to climate change, disasters, and economic shocks by increasing Australia’s development assistance

Colours

Colour usage

The Help Fight Famine colours should be used in a considered manner.

Some usage guidelines to note:

  • HFF Black is a specific shade. This specific black should always be used. Avoid using #000000/100% Black unless absolutely necessary (i.e. in a mono print context).
  • Avoid using solid Red backgrounds on collateral, especially with white headings. Red backgrounds should only appear with block Black graphic elements and typography, and sparingly. If another colour will do the job, use it – reserve Red for small accents/calls to action.

Typography application

Help Fight Famine’s fonts are Roc Grotesk Wide Extrabold, Roc Grotesk Compressed Bold, and Source Sans Light.

See Image 1 below for an example of how each weight should be applied.

Some usage guidelines to note:

  • When using Roc Grotesk for headings, ensure it’s applied in uppercase. Roc Grotesk should never appear in lowercase.
  • Don’t use Source Sans in a heading context – this is only to be used for body copy, where legibility is paramount.
  • You may use both Wide Extrabold and Compressed Bold together as feature text. See Images 2-4 below for example applications of feature type.
